5-23 Obscurity

This verse has always fascinated me, in multiple gospels. How Jesus knew our psyches!

If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

—Mt. 6:23

When You empower me to move with grace—

A kindly word, writing a needed check,

Calling 9-1-1- to report a wreck,

Soothing a grieving soul with warm embrace—

The world feels like a transcendental place.

But if I relish in what good I do,

The Master’s words shine in the depths within:

Where does my light end and darkness begin?

Do I elevate me, or acclaim You?

Even when I obey, I wish I knew.
